As Chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, I oversee and guide a department awarding Master of Public Health degrees in the program in Public Health, and direct an active research program. Among our current projects, are several focused on the mechanisms underlying the induction of cancer by sunlight, evaluating environmental asthma triggers that affect pre-school children, understanding the effects of plastics on neonatal health, and devising interventions to counter act the toxic effects of war gasses focused on vesicants and neurotoxicants. My laboratory includes experts in several diverse fields including Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Toxicology and Public Health. Currently, our group in Valhalla is comprised of Assistant Professors, graduate students, undergraduates and technicians. In addition to our own projects, we participate in an extensive NIH supported research network (CounterACT Network) to develop drugs to treat civilian populations in the event of exposure to agents of mass destruction. Among our closest collaborators actively working with us in the network are Professors at Lehigh University, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Battelle Memorial Institute. |
